A Tour of Maranatha Christian Academy

Maranatha Christian Academy (MCA), is a private Christian School serving over 660 students from kindergarten through the sixth grade. We are located on the church campus of Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa. A visitor to our campus will quickly observe our desire to place Jesus at the forefront of everything we attempt to accomplish. Academics are greatly valued, and serve as a means by which our students may grow in their relationship with the Lord, while at the same time developing the academic skills necessary to perform the Lord's work out in the world. Every day at MCA begins with a Bible lesson which includes scripture memorization. Chapel is consistently scheduled on Tuesday of every week throughout the school year.

As student demand for educational technology increases, MCA administration has taken an innovative approach by equipping each classroom with the latest in technology. Each MCA classroom contains a computer where students can practice academic skills. Every teacher is issued a laptop computer which works along with a projector in order to present academic material through Power Point Presentations. Teachers are able to record and track grades, take daily attendance, monitor student progress, as well as tap into the vast resources presented on the internet. New to our school is an actual "computer laboratory" consisting of 33 laptop computers where students meet each week to learn typing skills, various software applications, the anatomy of computer components, maintenance,as well as perform research.

Parents now have the opportunity to view news and events by searching our school website at calvaryschools.org. A link to individual classrooms is provided where parents can observe grades and student progress, as well as keep up on the latest happenings within the Calvary Chapel Schools family.

In addition to technology, MCA offers our students a wonderful art program called, Meet The Masters. Each month a famous artist is chosen for study. Students are taught the historical background concerning the artist and the era in which the artist worked. Actual art projects utilizing the artistic style are practiced. During "Open House" on March 4, 2010, the art will be displayed in the gymnasium.

Music is an important academic skill. MCA employs a full-time music teacher who visits every classroom once weekly to teach various musical styles. Performances are held periodically to demonstrate progress and showcase the growing talent.

Every student receives physical education several times each week. Taught by P.E. professionals, students learn about their body and the proper way to exercise and eat nutritionally. As childhood obesity becomes a growing concern, the practice of proper physical fitness and nutrition habits is vital. MCA students consistently score among the highest on the Presidential Physical Fitness Test. The foundation of our P.E. program is physical fitness, sport related skill acquisition, athletic competition, and nutrition.

MCA students enjoy their own seperate library which has recently become automated. A new software system was installed last school year to allow book check-out through the use of technology. Student identification cards can be scanned by our librarians, providing a quick process and instant records. This new system allows students the opportunity to locate a desired book within the library by performing a search through the computer. Our library's Passport to Literature program is a "hallmark" that leads, encourages, and rewards students to read several books and novels during their leisure time.

Maranatha Christian Academy is proud to support our school family both inside and outside the classroom. The majority of our daily school work requirement is performed within the classroom setting, eliminating the need for extensive homework during the evening. Parents are always welcome to work in the classroom!

When a person walks into a classroom at MCA, they immediately sense the teachers love for the Lord and their students.Colorful bulletin boards filled with information and student work adorn each classroom. Our teachers educate students through the use of the Abeka curriculum. Teachers use white boards, laptop computers, televisions, sound equipment, and of course books to educate their students. Unique to MCA is a language program called "Shirley Grammar," where students learn language fundamentals through the practice of writing, memorizing and repeating jingles and phrases.

MCA provides a hot lunch program where students can purchase a nutritionally balanced lunch for $3.50. Our daycare department provides games and activities, as well as security to our students while they play at recess and after school. Daycare services are also available before school from 7:00am to 8:00am, and after school from 3:00 to 6:00pm for a $5.00 fee. The campus is kept safe under the watchful eyes of our full-time security officer who regularly patrols the campus in a golf cart, as well as our daycare staff, pastors, teachers, administrators, and custodians.

Calvary Chapel Schools (MCA, Junior High, High School) are unique in the private education community in that we do not require parents to Fundraise! In addition, our tuition fees are among the lowest of Private Christian Schools in Orange County!

Currently, we have openings at every grade level and would like to extend an invitation to anyone interested in visiting our school. Please call (714) 556-0965 to schedule an appointment with an administrator, which includes a guided tour of our campus.
